UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 American University of Sharjah\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences Performing Arts Program held a virtual Student Piano Recital on April 13. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program presented an evening of contemporary and classical piano pieces played by AUS students from the applied lessons courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The half-hour event featured pianists Ahlam Bin Bahar, Jiyayi Rao, Katia Kanakri, Nasreen AlShamsi, and Yara Elenany. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bahar opened the recital by performing Henry Mancini\u2019s \u201cBaby Elephant Walk.\u201d The Grammy-winning piece was written in 1961 for the film \u201cHatari.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Rao, a psychology major undergraduate, played \u201cJingo\u201d by composer Christopher Norton. Kanakri followed by playing Leonard Cohen\u2019s \u201cHallelujah.\u201d The classic folk-rock song was released in 1984. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In her second performance, Bahar played \u201cGod Help the Outcasts\u201d by composer Alan Menken. Afterward, Rao played the popular 2013 \u201cLet it Go.\u201d The piece was composed by the couple Kristen Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez for Disney\u2019s blockbuster movie \u201cFrozen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n AlShamsi and Elnany played a \u201cWhole New World\u201d and \u201cOne Jump Ahead\u201d from \u201cAladdin.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n To round off the evening, AlShamsi played Franz Liszt\u2019s 19th<\/sup> century \u201c\u00c9tude en Douze Exercises No. 9.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The live event took place on the program\u2019s YouTube channel at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Salma Atta UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 American University of Sharjah\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences Performing Arts Program held a virtual Student Piano Recital on April 13.
