UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The American University of Sharjah\u2019s Performing Arts Program held a virtual Student Voice Recital on April 15 where students sang several pieces from the Romantic, Renaissance, and contemporary periods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event showcased the abilities of Dr. Sherri Weiler\u2019s voice students including, tenor Vignesh Kizhepat, baritone Karim Hodroj-Remmel, mezzo-sopranos Larissa D\u2019Silva, and Reema Al-Nabulsi, and Katia Kanakri and sopranos, Krystal Alphonso, and Furat Abdeljaber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kizhepat began the event with a performance of Guilo Caccini\u2019s Tu Ch\u2019hai la Penne, Amore<\/em> which was then followed by a rendition of Caro Mio Ben<\/em> by Abdeljaber, a piece given to first-time students of Weiler. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Next D\u2019Silva performed Non Giova Il Sospirar<\/em> by Nicola Vaccai and Alphonso sang Robert Schummans Volsliedchen<\/em> followed by Hodroj-Remmels interpretation of Schumanns Auf Dem Rhine.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n Kanakri then sang On My Own<\/em> from Victor Hugo\u2019s 1862 musical, Les Miserables<\/em>, and Al-Nabulsi sang Go \u2018Way from My Window, <\/em>a folk song arranged by Ruth Elaine Schram. Theywere followed by Gabriel Faure\u2019s Lydia <\/em>sung by Hodroj-Remmel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The next two pieces were again sung by D\u2019Silva and Alphonso. D\u2019Silva sang Benjamin Britten\u2019s Jazz-Man<\/em> whereas Alphonso sang Orlando Gibbons\u2019 The Silver Swan. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The last two performances were by Kanakri and Kizepat.
