{"id":2413,"date":"2021-11-23T08:33:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T04:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=2413"},"modified":"2021-11-30T08:42:09","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T04:42:09","slug":"its-ok-for-men-to-seek-mental-health-help-speakers-say-at-psychology-club-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2021\/11\/23\/its-ok-for-men-to-seek-mental-health-help-speakers-say-at-psychology-club-event\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s OK for men to seek mental health help, speakers say at Psychology Club event"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Salma Mourad<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH\u2014American University of Sharjah\u2019s Psychology Club hosted an online panel discussion Nov. 22 to raise awareness about the importance of men\u2019s mental health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Psychology Club Vice President Shireen Ahmad and Psychology Major Rashed AlGhazali hosted the meeting which included 47 attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AlGhazali introduced Michael Leonard, a behavioural change therapist and coach, who discussed societal issues surrounding men\u2019s mental health. He encouraged students to be good listeners to those suffering from mental health issues around them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second part of the event consisted of ongoing discussions between Leonard and two other speakers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ally Salama, CEO of the mental health magazine <em>EMPWR<\/em> and host of the Empathy Always Wins podcast, emphasized that upbringing has played a role in the stigma around men expressing their feelings.
