{"id":334,"date":"2020-04-12T16:22:30","date_gmt":"2020-04-12T12:22:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=334"},"modified":"2020-04-23T08:29:47","modified_gmt":"2020-04-23T04:29:47","slug":"bright-future-seen-for-green-concrete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2020\/04\/12\/bright-future-seen-for-green-concrete\/","title":{"rendered":"Bright future seen for &#8216;green&#8217; concrete"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Karim Aziz Oghly\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY \u2013 Green concrete is likely to replace traditional Portland cement-based concrete in the near future, Prof. Mohammad AlHamaydeh from the Civil Engineering department at the American University of Sharjah said in a recent email interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to AlHamaydeh, the market value of this type of sustainable concrete is expected to grow by about 13 percent annually during the 2018-2025 forecast period.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Green concrete, containing GGBS (ground granulated blast-furnace slag), produces a mere 3.5 percent of the carbon footprint of Portland concrete per ton, said AlHamaydeh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To create this sustainable construction material, AlHamaydeh said a substantial amount of the cement content is replaced with recycled waste products such as GGBS.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To facilitate global wide adoption of green concrete, it must be as at least as strong and durable as traditional concrete.
