{"id":3375,"date":"2022-04-01T14:40:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-01T10:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=3375"},"modified":"2023-10-04T09:52:33","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T05:52:33","slug":"business-learning-center-ready-to-help-sba-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2022\/04\/01\/business-learning-center-ready-to-help-sba-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Business Learning Center ready to help SBA students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Malika Kaloo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 The American University of Sharjah\u2019s Business Learning Center offers crucial help to first- and second-year School of Business Administration students, BLC tutor Asma Dildar said in a March 17 interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The center is especially important for students struggling in introductory courses, she added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBLC plays a vital role in helping students transition from high school to university as they have this external help which they can go to in case they face difficulty in understanding core concepts in class,\u201d Dildar said during a podcast done for the Department of Mass Communication\u2019s MCM Media Hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said that the number of tutoring sessions increases during midterm seasons, which indicates that students find BLC helpful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBLC provides supplementary one-on-one tutoring sessions for students. The way it works is that a student who needs tutoring has to book a session in time slots given and then the tutor teaches them via Zoom or Google link,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio alignright\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/mcmhub.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/20220322-welcome-to-the-point-with-malika.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>\u201cTo the Point\u201d with Malika <a href=\"https:\/\/mcmhub.wpengine.com\/index.php\/category\/podcasts\/\">More Podcast <\/a><br><\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dildar added that junior and senior year students with high grades are chosen as tutors and they teach courses relevant to their major.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I struggled with some of the courses like Finance 201, Accounting 201, Economics 201 but fortunately I had good professors. But if I could go back in time, I would definitely go to BLC because at that time I didn\u2019t know about it,\u201d said Abdolrahman Zaminpaima, a senior year finance student, in a separate interview.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that all introductory courses in finance and economics need BLC because students often struggle with these.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel major courses should also be taught at BLC,\u201d said Zaminpaima. &#8220;This semester I am taking Finance 440 which is the most intense course of my major and tutoring would have made it easier.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abdul Hadi Han, a senior year management student, said that students in the first two years at the university should consider BLC in order to develop a better understanding of their courses and get good grades. \u201cSophomores and freshmen must take advantage of this resource, especially for difficult courses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCourses like enterprise resource planning and project management should also be taught at BLC as they utilize software that takes a long time to grasp,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sana Shtaiwi, a first-year student who frequently books tutoring sessions, said that she learned about BLC through emails sent by SBA. \u201cI have taken tutoring sessions for ECO (Economics) 202,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was very helpful.
