{"id":3818,"date":"2022-10-12T10:22:45","date_gmt":"2022-10-12T06:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=3818"},"modified":"2022-10-27T11:16:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-27T07:16:44","slug":"aus-relaunches-effort-to-eliminate-single-use-plastics-on-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2022\/10\/12\/aus-relaunches-effort-to-eliminate-single-use-plastics-on-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"AUS relaunches effort to eliminate single-use plastics on campus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Latifa Almazrouei<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 The American University of Sharjah\u2019s Sustainability Team is re-launching its effort to ban petroleum-based single-use plastic (SUP) items from campus, and since Oct. 1 has begun offering environmentally friendly plant-based alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an Oct. 3 email, the Sustainability Office described the effort as a \u201cchallenge,\u201d noting that the campus is working to eliminate SUP products in a \u201cphased approach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of the first phase, according to the email, involves targeting water bottles of less than 500 ml.
