{"id":3863,"date":"2022-10-31T09:00:52","date_gmt":"2022-10-31T05:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=3863"},"modified":"2022-11-08T09:32:23","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T05:32:23","slug":"auto-peer-helps-students-avoid-writing-mistakes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2022\/10\/31\/auto-peer-helps-students-avoid-writing-mistakes\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cAuto-Peer\u201d helps students avoid writing mistakes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Jana Samy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY&#8211; The main purpose of the American University of Sharjah-based project \u201cAuto-Peer\u201d is to computationally turn writing-related problems into solutions, said an AUS professor Oct. 26.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The co-developer of \u201cAuto-Peer,\u201d Professor Philip McCarthy, said that the program was developed alongside his former students Ayah Al-Harthy and Anuja Thomas. McCarthy said that the program helps students avoid \u201cmaking the same mistakes\u201d in their writing. He added that it accurately provides suggestions and therefore, saves time when grading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the project remains a work in progress, McCarthy said that \u201cAuto-Peer\u201d took about three months to initially set up. He added that a \u201cproject is never done, it just runs out of money.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to McCarthy, the biggest and most time-consuming challenge he faced when developing \u201cAuto-Peer\u201d was making it available to Mac computers.
