UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 The American University of Sharjah\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences Humanities Working Group emphasized the importance of Liberal Arts for both personal development and career success in a panel discussion held Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou are a human being, and you deserve to be treated as a human being, not a cog,\u201d said Associate Professor of Management John Katsos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Humanities Working Group at AUS comprises faculty members from STEM and Liberal Arts fields. Besides Katsos, the event included Performing Arts Program Assistant Professors Albert Agha (serving as moderator) and Isabela Tavares; Associate Professor of Biology\/Neuroscience Reem Khalil; and Assistant Professors of International Studies Sammy Badran and Kurt Mertel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Discussing the importance of Liberal Arts, Katsos said that the jobs that exist today may not exist tomorrow because of automation. Mertel echoed the same point and added that Liberal Arts give students the creativity they will need as the world and its technology changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Katsos added that Liberal Arts skills are the solution to this problem as they create graduates who can adapt to changing responsibilities, possess critical thinking skills, and have leadership abilities that are highly valued by employers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
