{"id":4285,"date":"2023-02-27T08:37:53","date_gmt":"2023-02-27T04:37:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=4285"},"modified":"2023-04-05T08:41:17","modified_gmt":"2023-04-05T04:41:17","slug":"sumo-robot-competition-brings-out-high-school-programmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2023\/02\/27\/sumo-robot-competition-brings-out-high-school-programmers\/","title":{"rendered":"Sumo robot competition brings out high school programmers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Carine George<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 Ten teams of high school students participated in a robot-programming competition during a Sumo Robot Boot Camp organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering at the American University of Sharjah on Feb. 25-26.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition was sponsored by Petrofac.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event started at 9:30 a.m. on both days and around 26 students from different schools in the United Arab Emirates participated in it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students attended two sessions on the first day to get introduced to the basics of programming a robot. Attendees were provided with lab manuals with sample codes to control a robot\u2019s microcontroller. Groups who finished coding their robot early were given the opportunity to learn about the robot-building process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programmed robots fought together in a sumo ring on the second day of the event. For a group to win the competition, their robot should push the opposing robot out of the ring in a match.
