UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 Vocalists and instrumentalists from the American University of Sharjah\u2019s Performing Arts Program showcased their talents Jan. 31 at the first recital of Spring 2024 held in the Arts Building Rotunda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event began at 5 p.m. where Brahmishtha Bhattacharjee kicked off the performance with the song The Impossible Dream. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHonestly, the recital is a great way to help the singers overcome their nervousness, speaking for myself, and to understand the elements of performance,\u201d said Bhattacharjee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Assistant Professor Dr. Albert Agha accompanied vocalist Saleha Alhmoudi on the \u2018ud for her original composition Jeetak Ana (\u062c\u064a\u062a\u0643 \u0623\u0646\u0627). <\/em>She wrote the lyrics herself and was also able to compose the tune as she herself plays the \u2018ud and guitar, said Agha. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Agha added that the song\u2019s style originates from a local poetry form known as \u201cShala,\u201d indigenous to the UAE, and is common among Gulf countries though in different styles and accents.
