UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 Six education specialists discussed the ethics of using Generative AI in education during a March 7 symposium at the American University of Sharjah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The panelists \u2013 all established academics \u2013 said instructors need to ensure they understand the ethical challenges associated with GenAI before they can start implementing such technologies responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event, titled \u201cEducation in the Age of Generative AI,\u201d lasted from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the audience of about two dozen people consisted mainly of faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The speakers were Dr. Nancy W. Gleason, Dr. Tasneem Anwar, Prof. R. Indarjani S. Soeratno, Prof. Berry Billingsley, Prof. Michael J. Reiss, and Dr. Sami Bachir Mejri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The symposium aimed to broadly explore GenAI\u2019s effects on various disciplines, but particularly science and engineering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides raising ethical issues, the speakers shed light on how the education landscape needs to evolve considering the rapid spread of such tools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The specialists also shared strategies for harnessing GenAI in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
