{"id":573,"date":"2020-07-12T14:57:13","date_gmt":"2020-07-12T10:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=573"},"modified":"2020-09-20T11:16:41","modified_gmt":"2020-09-20T07:16:41","slug":"cas-dean-announces-merger-of-english-and-writing-studies-departments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2020\/07\/12\/cas-dean-announces-merger-of-english-and-writing-studies-departments\/","title":{"rendered":"CAS Dean announces merger of English and Writing Studies Departments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Merna Elashmawy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates \u2013 The American University of Sharjah\u2019s Department of Writing Studies department has merged into the Department of English, administrators announced last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>College of Arts and Sciences Dean Mahmoud Anabtawi announced the merger in a July 8 email, noting that the move is expected to improve interdisciplinary studies, as well as provide faculty members with more opportunities to teach new and different courses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dean added the creation of the larger Department of English should help \u201cgenerate new ideas for collaboration and growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dean acknowledged efforts by a \u201cmerger workgroup\u201d that helped draw up plans to combine the two departments.
