{"id":644,"date":"2020-09-28T11:48:11","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T07:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/?p=644"},"modified":"2020-10-04T16:15:10","modified_gmt":"2020-10-04T12:15:10","slug":"ausmc-seeks-applicants-for-debate-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcmmediahub.aus.edu\/index.php\/2020\/09\/28\/ausmc-seeks-applicants-for-debate-event\/","title":{"rendered":"AUSMC seeks applicants for debate event"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Sarah Al Saeid<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 American University of Sharjah\u2019s Model Congress Executive Board begin their search for the best 16 debating teams in the UAE after applications closed Sept. 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board is looking for debaters with soft skills like public speaking, research, team dynamic and critical thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AUSMC President Lena Khalifa said, \u201cIf they have experience and understand how to point out logical fallacies in arguments, that&#8217;s a plus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization requires applicants to have basic knowledge of the rules of debate, added Khalifa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the online championship however, debaters will be evaluated based on their delivery of factual information, persuasiveness and rebuttals to counterclaims, added Khalifa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board will contact applicants for an interview after shortlisting them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnce the interviews are over, we will select the best 16 teams to compete in the championship,\u201d said Khalifa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Undersecretary of Communications Assem Ahmad, the organization is announcing the interview results early next week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sarah Al Saeid UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH \u2013 American University of Sharjah\u2019s Model Congress Executive Board begin their search for the best 16 debating teams in the UAE after applications closed Sept. 17.
