UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The Performing Arts Program on April 20 will produce five plays written by students last term in Prof. Anthony Tassa’s THE361 class, Tassa, the program’s coordinator, said in an interview Feb. 2.

The working title of the production is, “An Evening of Short Plays.” It will premiere on the Performing Arts AUS YouTube channel at 7 p.m.

According to Tassa, none of the works fit one specific genre. He is directing three plays; Prof. Michael Long and Dr. Marija Reiff will each direct one of the remaining two.

The cast includes student actors chosen through online auditions. The selection process took place at the end of Fall 2020. Rehearsals are being held in a virtual environment every Sunday to Wednesday from 3-6 p.m.

It is the only theatre event planned for Spring 2021. This is due to ongoing coronavirus standard operating procedures preventing direct access to campus.
