SHARJAH- Hrair Sarkissian’s exhibition at Sharjah Art Foundation showcases two major new commissions and more than a dozen of his most significant work in the past 15 years.
Sarkissian’s “The Other Side of Silence” explores contested histories through photographs.
Sarkissian, a London-based Syrian-Armenian artist, takes the audience on a journey through Aleppo, Latakia and Damascus. His artwork also includes the snow-covered landscapes of Armenia.
He uses traditional documentary techniques in producing large-scale works. This technique engages the viewer into thinking about the historical background behind these images.
His work reveals the intricate and timely exploration of the histories behind each of these images, sculptures and installation.
Most of his pieces explore themes of memory, trauma, history, loss and belonging.
The exhibition is open to the public at the Sharjah Art Foundation from Oct. 30 to Jan. 31, 2022.
