UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Despite changes in COVID-related protocols in the United Arab Emirates, wearing masks and social distancing is still mandatory on campus as per Ministry of Education requirements, the American University of Sharjah announced in an email Feb. 22.

“Compliance with these requirements will help to protect the health of all those in our community, along with their families and loved ones,” Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Juan M. Sanchez wrote in the email.

According to the provost’s office, the email did not come based on any complaints filed regarding COVID protocol violations.

The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority announced Feb. 9 that restrictions on the capacity of people in public places would be lifted from Feb. 15 and social distancing at places of worship would be reduced to one meter.
