UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – With performances that included victories in women’s volleyball, power-lifting, swimming, and field track races, the Egyptian Cultural Club won first place for their overall performance in the American University of Sharjah’s Olympics event on Feb. 22-23.
The club also ranked second in men’s volleyball, tennis, and women’s football, and third in women’s badminton.
AUS announced the winners on Feb. 23 around 9 p.m. In overall performance, the Indian and Syrian cultural clubs followed the ECC in second and third place respectively.
The opening ceremony for the AUS Olympics was at 5:30 p.m. and 15 teams initially participated from different clubs. Only eight teams qualified for the second day’s contents, held at the sports facilities, which included the quarter finals, semi-finals, and finals. The clubs competed against each other in football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, powerlifting and other activities.
All participants received medals and awards during the closing ceremony, recognizing their individual efforts.
