UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Marketing junior Khalifa Pandeli won the strongman competition when the American University of Sharjah hosted its campus Olympics program Feb. 22-23.
The strongman competition consisted of deadlift, overhead press, and tire flip segments.
Pandeli said he started bodybuilding in 2018, and powerlifting last October.
“I love powerlifting, and this [the AUS Olympics] was the closest thing to it,” he said.
Pandeli, who competed in the under-70 kg weight class, said that lifting has impacted his life positively, making him more confident.
He added that sports at AUS increase competition between students, have long term health benefits, and put “everyone in a good space mentally.”
