UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The values and beliefs that celebrities signify, rather than their individual personalities, are at the center of a new American University of Sharjah course, being offered this semester and again in fall.

MCM 39409 Stardom and Celebrity Culture closely explores what celebrities represent and embody, according to the faculty member who developed the class, Associate Professor Dr. Sreya Mitra.

Noting that the idea of celebrity is a vast one, Mitra said the course material would address examples across a wide range of cultures, and also include influencers in its focus.

She added that assessments include in-class assignments, a case study, and a final presentation project.

The course prerequisite is either ENG 203 or 204; it will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays in the fall semester from 2-3:15 p.m. in ARTS 201.
