UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The American University of Sharjah on April 18 appointed Dr. Mohamed El-Tarhuni, a professor of electrical engineering also serving as vice provost for research and graduate studies, as interim provost and chief academic officer.
It also announced that Dr. Abed Al-Nasser Abdallah, a professor of accounting and current head of that department, would serve as interim chief operating officer.
The one-year positions will start June 1.
Chancellor Dr. Susan Mumm said in an email, “I look forward to working with these experienced colleagues over the year to come.”
She added, “I’d like to also take this opportunity to convey my sincere thanks to Dr. Jeannette Vinke and Dr. Juan Sanchez who have served AUS in the roles of COO and provost ably and loyally, and who leave a legacy of distinguished university service behind them as they leave us.”
AUS began a search for a full-time provost last semester but announced on March 23 the search would be extended.
