UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Any organization is only as good as the goods and services it delivers.
That is the idea behind the American University of Sharjah’s new Supply Chain Management (SCM) major, starting this fall in the School of Business Administration.
“I have always thought about operations and supply chain as the ‘beating heart’ of any organization,” said Professor of Supply Chain Management Dr. Linda Angell.
And even with the best marketing, finance, and research departments, she added, an organization will fail if it cannot connect with its consumers efficiently and effectively.
“Especially in this region,” Angell said, “where the UAE literally sits in the very center of the world and serves as a clearing house for global trade and logistics, there is a huge need for graduates with SCM skills, knowledge and capabilities.”
The AUS website describes the SCM program as teaching SBA students to be forward-thinking and innovative in an interdisciplinary field that manages all firms involved in the movement of materials, from the natural resources to the end-user.
Careers in SCM include those in the manufacturing, processes, service, education, and government industries.
