UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH — American University of Sharjah students stressed by finals can borrow a plant “study buddy” from the library as part of a program running from May 7-25.
The plants, a variety of which are available, can be collected from the service desk.
Students are allowed to borrow the plants for a maximum of three hours. The program, one of several de-stressing library initiatives, is only available during finals.
“We got the idea to host this program after attending a conference presentation by a U.S. librarian in Sharjah,” said Christine Furno, the engagement and outreach librarian.
According to Furno, the program began in Fall 2023 and the Access Services Team noted 41 students borrowing plants.
“Having a plant close by while I studied made me feel more focused and calm,” said Rabisa Khan, an AUS student.
