Students at the American University of Sharjah experienced the future of gaming through virtual reality during the VR Game Fest on Oct.13.

The Virtual Reality Club’s event featured VR booths, PlayStation gaming stations and sponsorships from local food vendors. Students said the event offered a fun way to escape from reality while exploring new technology, though opinions on its realism varied.

“VR makes you feel like you’ve entered a completely different world,” said Vismay Nair, one of the attendees. “It’s interesting, but it doesn’t feel like real life.”

Other participants said that the sense of immersion depends on focus and surroundings.

“VR feels realistic if you let yourself get immersed,” said Rashaad Hasan, who tried multiple VR games at the event. “When you focus on sights and sounds, it tricks your brain, but any outside noise can break the illusion.”
