UNIVERSITY CITY – The American University of Sharjah announced in an email on March 18 the closure of its library building for deep cleaning in compliance with ministry directives.

Librarians will not have access to the print collection from March 20 to April 5, University Librarian Kara Jones wrote in the email.

Although online resources and support services remain available, physical book retrieval services will be suspended until further notice, she wrote.

Should students need printed books, they must collect them before 5 p.m. on March 19, Jones added.

In the email, Jones attached links to a video and a pdf guide explaining how to request a book for collection on the library website.

“From the Library website, find available items listed in WorldCat and request a book by using the ‘Place hold’ button,” she wrote.

Staff will retrieve the book from the shelves and place it on hold for pick-up at the circulation desk in the library, Jones added.
“Your librarians are a fantastic resource and are available online or via phone to support your research and study,” she wrote.
