SHARJAH – American University of Sharjah’s Model Congress will hold the first round of its online debating championship Oct. 8-10, according to a Sept. 9 email.
AUSMC’s Executive Board announced the switch to an online championship due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the need to place the safety and welfare of the AUS community first.
The message came in an email forwarded by the office of the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
The online championship is open to university and high school students from all around the United Arab Emirates. It will have 16 four-person teams.
As seats will be limited, participants will go through an interview process; only those with “extraordinary” debate skills will compete, according to the organizer’s website.
The championship consists of four rounds: Preliminaries from Oct. 8-10, quarter-finals Oct. 16-17, semifinals Oct. 24, and runner up and finals Oct. 31.
