UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The head of the Mass Communication Department at American University of Sharjah, Dr. Mohammad Ayish, held an online information session on Nov. 23 for undergraduate students interested in pursuing internships during winter 2021.

Ayish said the university will allow students to undertake online internships because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is the first time that a winter internship is being offered,” he said.

Usually, mass communication students fulfill the requirement in summer.

According to Ayish, students will be required to complete five weeks or 200 contact hours between Dec. 27, 2020 and Jan. 28, 2021. Seventeen MCM students are expected to join the online winter internship at different media sites across the UAE.

He said the internship aims to help students engage with “real-world media functions and activities.”

Ayish added that the internship has proven to be a key factor in enabling greater student networking as well as in facilitating the search for jobs.

He said the department will give priority for internship opportunities to students who are expected to graduate in spring 2021.
