AUS to host regional math conference April 10

UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH—The American University of Sharjah will host 21 mathematicians during the Third AUS Regional Students’ Conference on Mathematics on April 10, according to a Thursday email from the dean of College of Arts and Sciences.  

According to the email, the keynote lecturers of the event will be YouTube Senior Product Analyst Parsa Bakhtary, and Khalifa University Mathematics Professor Mohamed Khamsi. 

The email noted that Bakhtary will present students with problems facing large tech companies such as Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Uber. It added that students will attempt to solve the problems using data analysis and machine learning. 

The second keynote lecturer, Khamsi, will discuss the abstract definition of a “distance” with mathematics students to show them the correct formulation of the theory, according to the email.

According to the email, the event will consist of three sessions that will host mathematicians from AUS and four other universities. Interested students can register for the conference by filling out a form at https://www.aus.edu/conferences/third-aus-regional-students-conference-on-mathematics.
