UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Marking Earth Day 2021 on April 22, the American University of Sharjah’s Sustainability Team, working with the AUS Library, issued a list of recommended books relevant to environmental issues, inviting AUS community members to read them.

The email stated that the official Earth Day theme for this year is “Restore Our Earth.” The theme rejects the idea of adaptation and mitigation as the only ways to address climate change. The team said, “It is up to each and every one of us to restore our earth; not just because we care about the natural world, but because we depend on it.”

According to the email, Earth Day is the largest civic observance in the world with more than one billion people in 192 countries participating in it.

To celebrate the event, the team worked with the AUS Library Team to create a special “Earth Day Book Display.”

It consists of 28 books including:

  • “Philosophy of Management and Sustainability” by Jacob Dahl Rendtorff
  • “Design for Sustainability” by Janis Birkeland
  • “Researching Sustainability” by Alex Franklin
  • “The Man with the Compound Eyes” by Wu Ming-Yi
  • “After Nature” by W.G. Sebald

and other novels and books that approach sustainability from several aspects.

The team encouraged AUS community members to use resources available at the university to learn more about sustainability and climate change.

The email provided a link to the AUS Library website to access the team’s book selection from the WorldCat Catalogue.
