UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Newly installed American University of Sharjah Chancellor Dr. Susan Mumm welcomed students and faculty in a Sept. 1 email, thanking the community for a successful beginning to the academic year.

Mumm welcomed the return of activity to campus while acknowledging the unusual atmosphere of hybrid teaching, citing “the unique blend of new and familiar that the academic year brings.”

She added that while AUS’s annual pattern is new to her, she is appreciative of the university’s traditions and history.

The chancellor said that her goal is “to knit together our priorities and our aspirations with the vision of our Founder [University President and Sharjah Ruler His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi] in order to lift this unique university to even greater heights.”

According to the AUS website, Mumm received a bachelor’s degree in English and history and a master’s degree in history from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, and a doctorate in history from the University of Sussex, UK. Prior to joining AUS, she worked as dean of arts and science at Queen’s University in Kingston, UK.
