SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates – Noora Almahri, 22, vice-president of the Law Society at the American University of Sharjah, said in today’s interview that a mock trial competition is happening this November.

Almahri, an International Studies major and senior II, has been planning with her Law Society peers a mock trial competition event that will take place virtually on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20.

According to Almahri, eight teams will be chosen from four schools and four universities in the country, one team per organization, on a first come first serve basis and each will consist of three to five members chosen by their institute.

Almahri added that participants must submit a registration fee of 100 AED and be at least 15 years old.

“Any student that is interested is allowed to participate,” said Almahri.

She added that the fictional case chosen for the event has been bought from the Constitutional Rights Foundation of the United States and will follow the laws stated by the American government. The case is People v. Croddy and deals with burglary, aiding and abetting and accessory after the fact.

Almahri added, “we are still planning the final details but we are very excited and we hope it goes well.”
