SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates – The American University of Sharjah’s ecological representatives and the members of cultural clubs put up posters around campus on Thursday to celebrate the United Arab Emirates’ 50th National Day.

The event was part of the collaboration between AUS Sustainability and the Office of Student Affairs.

The posters display the UAE’s diversity and cultural tolerance.

“Usually, the first thing that comes to our mind when we think about sustainability is environment and earth, but sustainability is more than that. It is about celebrating cultures, diversity and tolerance,” said Vini Rupchandani, AUS Sustainability’s ecological representative.

“Since it is the 50th National Day, we collaborated with the cultural clubs to celebrate the values of tolerance and diversity in the UAE,” she added.

The ecological representatives and the members of seven cultural clubs decorated seven bulletin boards around the campus.

“It was a great opportunity for all the cultural clubs to express their cultural values and celebrate the diversity of the UAE,” said Jawwad Sheikh, the activities coordinator of Pakistani Cultural Club.

Sheikh said that it took the Pakistani Cultural Club almost a week to prepare the posters for the event.

The UAE will celebrate its 50th National Day on Dec. 2.
