SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates – The American University of Sharjah celebrated United Arab Emirates’ Golden Jubilee with a set of events organized by the Emirati Cultural Club on Nov. 24.

The UAE National Day event on campus consisted of a social media campaign, a marching band, a recitation from the Holy Quran and traditional folkloric dances by Al Fursan Band.

A walk-through photo gallery about the history of the UAE was on display at the AUS Plaza.

“UAE National Day is an important opportunity to celebrate our founding fathers and the traditions of this land. We have had a large turnout [with those] who celebrated with us the UAE’s past 50 years and who, like us, are looking forward to the next 50,” said Aliya Al Mazrouei, Vice- President of the Emirati Cultural Club at AUS.

A performance by the AUS Choir and a poetry reading from the Sharjah Heritage Foundation were also held.

Many small businesses, including a clothing brand, an art café and a bakery provided free giveaways to guests and students.

AUS Electrical Engineering student, Samrin Saleem, said, “I loved the whole event so much. The decorations were really pretty, and the stalls and performances made it so lively. The ECC put a lot of effort into the celebrations, and it showed.”
