KIVUKONI, TANZANIA— American University of Sharjah alumna Fatema Tapya was honored for the second year in a row with a Rising Woman award, presented during a March 8 event in the Serena Hotel Dar es Salaam.

Tapya, a graduate from AUS in 2007 with a degree in marketing and management with a minor in journalism, received the honors for her work in Empress Furniture, Dar es Salaam. She won the Rising Women Awards for having a management team that consists of 80% women. Tapya said that another reason they won is for their special consideration towards female employees.

Tapya stated that this is not the first award they have won. According to the alumna, her company also received Tanzania Top 100 Midsize Company Awards six years in a row.

“Winning the award is an honor and a privilege,” Tapya said, adding that it is humbling to know that people out there think she is worthy of such a victory. Tapya said the award will only make her want to work harder.
