UNIVERSITY CITY, Sharjah– The Saudi Cultural Club at the American University of Sharjah hosted its biggest on-campus event on Sept. 26 to celebrate Saudi Arabia’s 92nd National Day.
“This is the biggest event of the Saudi Club. We did celebrate the National Day in 2019 but it was on a smaller scale and since then we were not able to organize any events due to Covid restrictions,’ said Layan Alsourani, the president of the AUS Student Council.
According to the Instagram post of Rafal Habib, the vice president of the club, over 800 people attended the event.
The club set up a photo booth, games corner and food stalls for the attendees.
They also presented a cultural show that included various traditional performances and short documentaries depicting the history and culture of Saudi Arabia.
The event had around 10 sponsors, including Al Baik and Majid Al Futtaim Group.
“We organized this event in collaboration with our sponsors. We had many Saudi sponsors too who provided us with dates, coffee and other things,” said Salman Alzamel, the activities coordinator of the Saudi Cultural Club.
Susan Mumm, the chancellor of AUS, also attended the National Day celebrations.
