SHARJAH, UAE- The House of Wisdom launched the first ever exhibition in an Arab city dedicated to Frida Kahlo in the Arabic language in Sharjah on Oct. 8.

The exhibition “Frida & Me” was launched in collaboration with the Department of Government Relations.

It was inaugurated by Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, the president of the International Publishers Association.

The first event of the exhibition included an interactive workshop for children where they could learn more about the artistic journey of Kahlo and various aspects of her life.

“We have many activities for kids in order to familiarize them with Frida and her unique life. We have set up props for children to dress up like her, paint her pictures and experience a part of her daily life by using 13 interactive devices,” said Hafiza Tuba, a volunteer at the exhibition.

The children’s workshop was held again on Oct. 15, along with a photography workshop for adults led by award-winning Pakistani photographer, Asim Cheema.

“We have a model here who has similar facial features as Frida Kahlo, and we have dressed her up like Frida so that photographers can take her pictures. I am here to teach them how to take pictures under certain light conditions,” said Cheema.

The exhibition is scheduled to host events like yoga for kids, shirt painting and other workshops inspired by Kahlo every Saturday until  Jan 8, 2023.
