UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH — American University of Sharjah sports teams dominated the Intercollegiate Ramadan Sports Tournament, held at AUS from April 10-15 with the participation of 12 different universities.
Organized by the Student Athletics and Recreation Department, under the Office of Student Affairs, the tournament involved men’s and women’s football, basketball, and volleyball teams.
AUS dominated the competition, achieving four first-place trophies and one runner-up, in several cases defeating rivals from Rochester Institute of Technology in the final games.
In men’s volleyball, Police Science Academy Sharjah finished in first place after defeating Gulf Medical University Ajman in straight sets. In the men’s football finals, American University in the Emirates defeated AUS 2-0.
AUS did better in men’s basketball, defeating RIT 42-39 in a seesaw, nail-biting final. Its women’s basketball, volleyball and football teams each also defeated their RIT counterparts, 29-10, 2-0, and 8-0 respectively.
