UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – English Fellows, the editorial board for the journal “Asrar” (Arabic for secret), in collaboration with the Creative Writing Club at the American University of Sharjah, is set to host a launch party on Oct. 10.
Dr. Una Tanovic, an assistant professor of English and faculty mentor for English Fellows at AUS, said “Asrar,” launched in the spring of 2014, is an online academic and cultural journal run by AUS students from the English department.
This year, the journal featured a special section on gender.
According to Tanovic, the contributions came from English courses, including academic writing from 100 and 200-level composition courses and literary analysis from classes taught by Dr. Brian McAllister and Dr. Paul Almonte.
“The multimodal works came from courses taught by Dr. Maya Aghasi and Dr. Kristen Highland, allowing students to experiment with digital formats,” Tanovic said.
Ghofrane Lahib, “Asrar” journal editor, said she takes pride in publishing student work and has gained valuable editing skills during her three-year tenure.
According to Huda Imran, another “Asrar” journal editor, the launch party’s catering is by Laffah and Tea Time.
“The stickers are going to be a big hit with the students,” said Imran, regarding free merchandise for attendees at the event.
The launch party is in the Language building from 5-7 p.m.
