UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – American University of Sharjah students are allowed to use Generative AI (GAI) tools if their instructor permits it, according to a policy distributed by the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs.

The document, issued at the start of the spring term, notes that students are otherwise forbidden to use GAI tools to produce any work for assessments. Such use constitutes an academic integrity offense.

Instructors allowing their use must specify in their syllabi those which students may use, as well as a brief rationale for using them, according to the policy.

Students must also be sure that they do not represent GAI output as their creative work. They must ensure that they use the tools in compliance with the course syllabus and take full responsibility for the accuracy of AI-generated work.
