UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH — Most restaurants at the American University of Sharjah during Ramadan are open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will close on weekends, according to March emails.
The emails from the Office of the Chief Operating Officer, the second of which on March 21 included revised timings, noted that AUS also changed the operating hours of other campus outlets for the holy month.
For example, the Sharjah Co-op branches in the Student Center and Women’s Dorms will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., except Fridays and Saturdays, when it will open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Other campus outlets like All Prints, the AUS Post Office and Al Manara Pharmacy are scheduled to stay open between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and are closed over the weekend. The Yathrib men’s salon is to stay open on all days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. except Fridays.
There are a total of nine food outlets on the AUS campus, two of which have been closed for the entire holy month of Ramadan. Several of those remaining open are operating after 5 or 6 p.m.
A partitioned area in the Student Center is provided during the day for students who are not fasting.
According to the office, timings are expected to change again for Spring Break and Eid.
