Campus production offers heavy metal take on Shakespeare’s ‘Scottish play’

UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The American University of Sharjah’s College of Arts and Sciences Performing Arts Program next week is presenting Heavy Metal Macbeth, a modern reimagining of William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy.

Replete with the energy and intensity of heavy metal music, this version of Shakespeare’s play will be held at the Performing Arts Rotunda in the Arts Building at AUS from Monday, Oct. 28 to Friday Nov. 1. Each performance starts at 7 p.m. 

The production is directed by Interim Program Coordinator Prof. Anthony Tassa, and involves many AUS students in acting, stage design, lighting, and sound. 

Organizers are promising a bold and immersive experience which will allow audiences to experience Shakespeare’s dark “Scottish play” in a new and unforgettable way. The play is not recommended for audience goers under 12.
