UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Street food came to the American University of Sharjah’s campus Wednesday with students buying tacos provided as part of a new weekly program hosted by the Student Residential Life Department.
The first of several planned “Street Food Wednesday” events, scheduled to continue March 16, saw the first 20 residential students who bought tacos receive free AUS t-shirts.
The taco stall was set up in the gazebo area opposite the minimart near the women’s residential halls at around 6 p.m.
Chef Suresh Selvaraj said he ran out of tacos by 7:45 p.m., and estimated he served about 200 customers. “The event was successful because of their support,” he said.
Hauwa’u Maikanati Baru, a student who bought tacos on Wednesday, said, “There was a little delay in buying the tacos, but it was worth the wait.”
She added that the residential assistant of her dorm had notified the residents about the taco stall. She also saw a poster in the dorm about it.
According to the Instagram page of residential halls, all dorm residents who attended the event also received SFW loyalty cards.
