Sharjah, UAE: Two American University of Sharjah students, Sarah Jamjoom and Layan Alsourani, are guest speakers who are taking part in the Breast Cancer awareness events.
Sarah Jamjoom said, “Whether it is a sister, mother, aunt or friend, a lot of our students are surrounded by those who are suffering or have suffered from breast cancer, it is important for them to have a support system here at AUS.”
The Dean’s Business Team from the School of Business hosted Pinktober between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Oct. 4 and 5, at SBA. The event offered food, giveaways and hosted a nail station to the 500 people who attended. Jamjoom, who is on the Chancellor’s list, currently holds the position of Business Development Manager at the DBT.
She said, “This event has also acted as a reminder for all of us young girls to go and check up on ourselves no matter how young or how far we think breast cancer is away from us.”
The event managed to raise AED 5,500 for The Pink Caravan.
Meanwhile, the Student Council hosted a Pinktober charity event from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., on Oct.11 and 12 at the Student Center.
Alsouran, who helped organize the event, said, “Our main objective [was] to sell all the items we have prepared such as hats and roses to give all the funds to charity.”
The event raised AED 8,000.
Jamjoom and Alsourani believe that team effort important for Pinktober events to succeed.
Alsourani said, “As cliché as it sounds but ‘team work makes the dream work’.”
