UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH—The American University of Sharjah’s Student Center reopened in January with new interior design and will possibly have more businesses open soon, according to Interim Chief Operating Officer Dr. Abed Al-Nasser Abdallah.
Abdallah said that many new restaurants are planned to open in AUS in the duration of the next few months. The restaurants will be of “various cuisines like Indian, Middle Eastern and Chinese.”
The Student Center was renovated due to safety regulations of the UAE, specifically the civil defense requirement, said Abdallah.
In some new areas, the Student Center, closed since last summer, returned to its old configuration, albeit with new paint, furniture, and design schemes in place. The basement area, for example, again houses its previous batch of restaurants and coffee shops, along with the university bookstore and the Sharjah Co-op. A few restaurant slots have changed hands, one now occupied by a catering service.
The construction company responsible for renovations was Archcop and Pallonji Mideast L.L.C.
