UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH — American University of Sharjah alumnus Ahmed Al-Akhras returned to campus for the Feb. 20 “Evening of Arabic Poetry,” which also featured poet and journalist Nizar Abu Nasser.

Al-Akhras graduated from AUS in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He recited five poems, including Ghareeb Howa Alhob (Love is Strange) and Untha Al Nay (The Female of the Flute).

The session was held by the Department of Arabic and Translation Studies and included musical performances. It was originally scheduled for Feb. 15 but was rescheduled due to heavy rains.

Afterwards, Al-Akhras and Abu Nasser signed dozens of copies of their books at a “dedication” segment, during which refreshments and snacks were provided.
