UNIVERSITY CITY – The American Society of Civil Engineers at the American University of Sharjah proceeded with their annual professors-and-students sports competition prior to the cancellation of all on-campus events, said Activities Coordinator Engy Mikhail on March 1.
Mikhail said that the ASCE is a professional body founded in 1852 to represent worldwide members of the profession.
Students that were interested in competing were able to register by sending an email to the AUS subset of the organization, Mikhail added.
The event took place on the campus’ sports field on Feb. 26 from 6-9 p.m.
In preparations for the event, the team contacted faculty members to learn about their preferred sports, Mikhail said.
The activities included football, basketball, and chess.
Mikhail said that one professor was allocated to each team of students.
“I know other organizations worked really hard on planning events this semester and I hope they get the chance to make them come to life like we did,” Mikhail added.
