SHARJAH, UAE –The American University of Sharjah organized an on-campus National Day celebration on Nov. 24.
One of the shows at the event included an Emirati singer who sang popular songs. A female in an Emirati thoub joined him on stage in a traditional dance.
The food stalls had many traditional popular UAE food and desserts like Luqaimat, Khubz Regag (regag bread), and Chabab bread (Emirati pancake).
All the food stalls handed out the food for free. The food stalls were very crowded.
Several people at the event were dancing with the performers on stage.
“It was nice attending an on-campus event for the first time after being deprived of such exciting and joyful celebrations,” said Yasmine Almani, a second-year student.
The people attending the event were cautious about the COVID-19 situation and wore their masks.
Security guards were at every corner to maintain the safety of the students.
Most of the AUS students wore UAE traditional clothes, such as the abaya for women and the kandura for the men.
“The long queue for the free traditional food was worth it,” said Amani Abdulrazak, a second-year student.
