SHARJAH, UAE–The American University of Sharjah’s Emirati Club hosted an event to celebrate the United Arab Emirates’ 50th National Day on Nov. 24.

The preparations for the National Day were different from usual because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There was a lot of challenges while planning for it. We had to think of the slightest detail such as seating plans, inviting performers, and ways to distribute vendors and how to get the food wrapped safely for students,” said Fatima Jaber, AUS Emirati’s Club activities coordinator.

“This was not the first on campus event for students only, but also for AUS’ faculty,” she added.

Members of the Emirati Club arranged various performances related to the UAE’s culture.

“The most favorite part of the event was the Yola performance as well as the Al- Ayyala that was performed by a professional band along with our AUS students,” said Hind Almaazmi, AUS Emirati Club’s executive assistant.

Almaazmi said that it took them around four months to prepare for the event, but the in-action process took four days.

The UAE’s National Day is on Dec. 2.
