UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Students commuting to campuses within University City have witnessed an increase in traffic delay as they return to in-person classes.

Motorists traveling to universities in Al Juraina said that their journey times had nearly doubled since the face-to-face system has returned.

Afra Al Suwaidi, a student at the American University of Sharjah, said that “The traffic has affected my trip to the university by making me leave my house at least an hour earlier.”

Another AUS student, Aya Al Hilali, added that “I noticed that I’m a lot more stressed because of the jam.”

According to Aisha Alshakhli, a physiotherapy student at the University of Sharjah, “The road congestion is caused by poor driving behaviors.”

Alshakhli said that drivers would cut the line to avoid further delay, which has resulted in more accidents on the road.

Students noted that the authorities attempted to alleviate the traffic jam by supervising traffic flow in all directions leading to University City.
