UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – American University of Sharjah Theatre Professor, Anthony Tassa, said that Devised Theatre, the oldest form of theatre, has made a comeback during an interview in AUS on Oct. 11.

Tassa said, “the first forms of theatre were just simple storytelling.”

According to him, Devised Theatre, a form of theatre that relies on the director and actors solely without a playwright, has made a comeback while the film industry fell into repetitiveness. Devised Theatre also relies heavily on physical movements more so than dialogue.

Professor Tassa affirmed that the impulsive nature of Devised Theatre protects it from being formulaic.

He also recommended “Marat/Sade” as an introduction to Devised Theatre for those who are unfamiliar with the genre.
