UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The American University of Sharjah’s Office of Safety and Crisis Management launched a campus-wide awareness campaign on electric scooter safety Nov. 3.
According to the email sent by OSCM, the campaign follows a recent rise in concern about the safety of scooter users and the general community.
The regulations include provisions that e-scooter drivers should:
- only operate on sidewalks;
- avoid high speeds;
- Keep adequate distance between them and others; and
- cross streets at designated crossings
The policy also prohibits riders from taking passengers, bringing scooters into buildings, or using mobile phones while riding.
The email added that the OSCM will be cooperating with the AUS Security Department to implement the rules and that any breach will be met with repercussions.
